The iPhone Air 2 could arrive this fall, but don’t expect big changes

Over the past few months, rumors have swirled about a second-generation iPhone Air. While some reports suggested Apple had canceled the model due to weak sales of the first generation, others indicated a delay to its release until 2027. Last month, leaks contradicted these claims, hinting that Apple might launch the iPhone Air 2 this fall. Now, the same leaker has confirmed this release timeline and provided some additional details.

In a recent Weibo post, the leaker Fixed Focus Digital claimed that information from Apple’s manufacturing supply chain points to a fall 2026 release for the iPhone Air 2, although other sources question this timeline. The leaker also indicated that the device would represent a relatively minor upgrade, which aligns with previous leaks suggesting the slim phone might receive a new chip and updated software, but nothing more.

The future of the iPhone Air 2 remains uncertain

As with all leaks, this information should be treated with caution, especially since other, more reliable sources confirm that Apple will not be updating the iPhone Air in 2026. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, known for his accurate Apple leaks, previously stated that Apple never planned to include the iPhone Air in its annual update cycle and that it was merely a “tech experiment and prototype in preparation for a foldable iPhone.”

On the other hand, a report from The Information indicated that Apple canceled the trial production of the iPhone Air 2 late last year after weak sales of the first model and is now considering a complete redesign that could be released in 2027. The report added that Apple is considering adding a second rear camera to the upgraded model and lowering its price to make it more appealing to buyers.

With conflicting reports and leaks, the future of the iPhone Air 2 remains unclear. It remains to be seen whether Apple will settle for a minor update this year or wait until 2027 to launch a completely new design next year.
